Participatory Embroidery Point de Bayeux

This project emerged during the event “La Nuit des Artistes” in Honfleur on August 2, 2025.
I was welcomed at La Mora (the performance shipyard reconstructing William’s vessel).
My subject was obvious: the depiction of the ship on the Bayeux Tapestry, scene 38.
I grabbed my book, my palette, and off I went. I redrew the scene, added the colors, and then straight to the printer…

Carried away by my excitement for this project, the reproduction grew in proportion.
So here I am with a 1.50 m by 1.20 m print to transfer onto linen canvas.

I then prepared the wool skeins, loaded up the car and… off we went, Poup’ and I, heading to La Mora.
The public and participants welcomed me beyond anything I had expected.

I love this project, made of tiny stitches from one person and another, coming together to create a collective work. Wherever I travel, this embroidery will come along with me, so that you too can take part.

It’s a moment of sharing, to discover the Bayeux Embroidery Stitch, and to exchange stories, anecdotes, and mysteries of the Tapestry.

See you soon to continue the adventure…
